Black Watch is my most favorite of Scottish tartans. Navy and emerald interwoven, deep and dark like India ink. Last winter I had a simple skirt in mind, made from this plaid - one with a high, pleated waist and a self-tie belt. I found a remnant in a soft wool-rayon blend, with a nice drape and set to work. It was put aside numerous times - because, dear friends, I am the laziest of sewers - but I finished it in time to wear this winter and now, into spring. I based my skirt on this helpful tutorial, but added a lining and downplayed the paper bag waist.

This is such a beautiful skirt! Congratulations for creating something so exquisite. Perfect for spring, I daresay. x
The skirt is lovely. And the name, perfect.
I am wearing literally an almost identical hand-sewn skirt today, except mine has a gathered waist. Great minds think alike, I guess :-) Lovely!
haha! my school uniform was black watch tartan. I cant wear it day to day now! Your skirt is very pretty though :)

Good for you, Olivia! Turned out so chic! Happy day to you. ;-)
Quite right with boots, especially for fielding!
Ooh that's too cute! I'm about to marry a Scotsman so I'm a BIT tartan mad at the moment. This skirt is beautifully shaped =)
very cute, it's like a fashionable schoolgirl sort of thing xo

you are real master!
I like your style of photo editing
I *love* this skirt! Such a great shape and material. And the tie waist just makes it.
I will definitely be visiting your lovely blog again :D
Oh so cute! I love the gathered pleats and the bow. A feminine touch to a masculine pattern. And I relate to being a lazy sewer. Things never seem to get finished. ;) I still have a few hems to do...
