Valentine's storefronts are emerging all over the city. Hearts of deep red float across the glassy panes of the bakery near fifth. Florist shops glow from within, with window displays that pass in an intricate blur as you drive by in the low light of February afternoon. Wonderfully colored, warmly lit. There are so many pretty things to be seen and made this month. I just finished up these embellished straws for Papermash. Click here to download a .pdf at Papermash with project instructions and photos. It's a simple and customizable project, and best served with something sweet! Update: The larger hearts are made with a Martha Stewart Craft Punch and the smaller hearts are "Dimensional Heart Stickers" from the same line. But you can cut your own simple heart shapes as well using the templates in the download.

So pretty! I know Valentine's Day gets a bad wrap, but who can hate a day all about spreading a little love? Even if it was created for commercial reasons, the idea behind it is still pure I think!
And Livvy, I swear, everything you touch turns to gold! I mean, striped straws are cute and adorable (and I totally want them), but this is AMAZING!
These are so petite and charming. Especially love the use of the aqua colored paper with the pink. Thanks for sharing. - Julie
They are just adorable! What a lovely valentine craft!
I wonder where you got the smaller hearts? The big ones look like they are made with a Martha Stewart punch, but I would really like to get the small ones!
All the best!

Very pretty, but I don't see how to cut out the squares in the hearts? Is that part of the punch design or do you have to cut out the squares singly?
Blessings, Star
- yes the openwork part of the heart is part of the punch design.

Those are fabulous! The red-and-white striped straws somehow remind me of Coney Island, though I've never even been there. Go figure.

Hi, Livy! I just saw this post today and had no idea that you were the one who made these for papermash! I blogged about this craft on my own site! I should have known these were your handy work since your blog is one that I've been following for quite some time now! They are so lovely!
Thanks so much for sharing! These are so sweet! I posted about your creation on my blog here. I also happen to have red and white striped straws for sale here. I think the hearts would be really cute present toppers or made into a garland for any time of year as well. I just bookmarked them as a project to start really soon!
Goodness...these are adorable. Bummed i missed seeing this post before V-Day. I'm tucking it away for inspiration next year. xoxo
